Additional Details

'The material collected here, a Southern Regional Council Special report and two supplements to that report was written and issued in the immediacy of unfolding events in the city of Memphis during the spring of 1968. The original report was issued one week before the violence of March 28"--from the Foreword by Pat Watters, Director of Information for the Southern Regional Council. The initial report and the two supplements were written literally as events unfolded. The Southern Regional Council or SRC, was founded as the Commission on Interracial Cooperation in 1919 in the aftermath of the terrible violence of 'Red Summer.' It continues to deal with the unfinished business of racial injustice in America.
